Welcome to Year 2!

The children have settled in well to Year 2 and we have really enjoyed the first term getting to know them! Our Mark Making work at the start of the year was lots of fun. The Year 2 children produced some fantastic work and took lots of pride with their presentation. They learnt a poem by heart and performed confidently in front of the whole school. We were really proud of them all.

We really enjoyed meeting lots of you at Parents’ Evening. We hope you found it useful. As always, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us about concerns or queries you may have.

Please see below for important dates for your diary.

Christmas is fast approaching and we have some exciting things to look forward to. We have started practising for our Nativity this week. The children are enjoying learning lots of new songs and are looking forward to the performances where they can show off all their hard work.

We ask that you listen to your child read at least 5 times a week and record this in their reading records. Children reading below RR20 are asked to read each book through twice before they change it. This helps develop fluency and comprehension. Ask lots of questions about what has been read and encourage your child to re tell the story – they can use the book to help them with this as it’s not a memory test. “Reading is for life. Enjoy!”

Throughout the year the children will be taking part in different Maths Challenges. These involve the children completing 55 number sentences in 5 minutes. Please help your child to learn their number bonds to 10, 100 and 20. They can also work on learning their 2,5 and 10x tables. For a challenge why not try the 3 and 4x tables too?!
